16/16

Famous movie in 1933, and arguably still in people's minds when they saw this 1934 ad for an Alice-like character chewing the maker's gum. In fact, pictured here is Alice herself, in the person of Charlotte Henry, the actress from that movie.
The text set in a tail-like structure is a parody of the "mouse tail" poem, a typographic tour-de-force from the printed book, one that would never be put in an ad today as requiring too much assumption of literacy on the part of the customer readership base. Published in the November, 1934 issue of GOOD HOUSEKEEPING.
