The Summer Widowers Number shows a man faced with a sink piled over the top with dirty dishes, cats yowling to be fed, and bird singing in a cage, as he realizes how much he needs his wife: "I'll take her back if she wants to come back." So maybe he's in a separation, not just temporarily batching it?
